Simple Skincare Resolutions For The New Year
The new year is well and truly underway, and most of us have set ourselves goals for the year ahead, whether that’s healthy eating, joining a gym or simply giving up sugar in our tea! With skin health being a key contributor to our overall wellness and confidence, at Sheer Laser & Skin Clinic, we’ve put together a handful of skincare resolutions for you to stick to for 2020 if you want an envy-inducing complexion. We’ve kept these skincare tips simple so that they’re super achievable, no matter what your lifestyle or budget may be.

TAKE YOUR MAKEUP OFF … PROPERLY!
It’s time to take your make-up off every night, without fail and not just with a face wipe!
Face wipes should not be an equivalent or alternative to an actual facial cleanser. Facial wipes will not remove all of your makeup completely and this will result in debris build up on the skin and clogged pores. Failing to remove all of your makeup will not allow your skin to breathe and repair itself overnight. All of this will present itself as uneven skin tone, textured skin, dryness, flakiness, acne and your makeup looking cakey.
So make the time to cleanse properly, but if you know you simply won’t get to the sink to use a cleanser with water, then invest in a creamy cleanser that can be applied with cotton pads and does not need to be removed with water. We recommend the iS Clinical CREAM CLEANSER.

TRY SOMETHING NEW
If you’ve stuck to the same skincare routine for years, it may be time to shake up the products that you’re using and try something new. Everyone’s heard the claim that you have to change your shampoo regularly, because your hair “gets used to” whatever you’re using. Whether or not that’s true, it seems to have inspired a similar idea that using the same skincare on a consistent basis doesn’t produce the best results.
Our advice is that it’s not a problem to use the same cosmetic products, as long as you are listening to your skin and making necessary adjustments. Your skin changes due to a variety of factors such as age, hormones, diet, stress and seasons, so you need to make certain changes in your skincare routine based on what your skin is telling you.
We suggest taking your skincare regime to the next level with the simple addition of a power product that is an all-rounder kind of serum, something quick and easy to use with the promise to deliver maximum results. One of our favourites is iS Clinical’s ACTIVE SERUM; known as the “multi-tasking miracle worker” it helps minimise lines, reduce pigmentation and tackle breakouts.

USE SUNSCREEN DAILY
We can’t stress the importance of using a sunscreen enough, and it really should be a staple in your morning routine, the same way that brushing your teeth is. No matter what the season may be, the sun is constantly emitting harmful rays that cause long-term damage to your skin. Not only will it accelerate the skin’s ageing process, but unprotected exposure will also cause pigmentation which is one of the most difficult skin conditions to treat. Most importantly, over exposure increases your risk of developing skin cancer. And no … SPF in your foundation is not going to provide you with adequate protection!
We absolutely love the range of sunscreens available from PCA skin, as they’re lightweight, hydrating, free from perfumes and parabens and most importantly have the seal of approval from the Skin Cancer Foundation. Sunscreen products that have earned The Skin Cancer Foundation’s Seal of Recommendation are the gold standard in sun protection, which means they’ve been proven effective in the prevention of skin cancer, not just blocking rays that will cause sunburn.
Priced between £33 – £40 … they’re totally worth it and have become a staple product which our clients can’t live without!!

GET INTO BED WITH RETINOL
Retinol is Vitamin A derivative and is a superhero ingredient which has the superpower ability to unclog pores, boost collagen to reduce fine lines, increase cell turnover to even out discolouration and brighten and smooth the skin’s texture and appearance.
PCA skin literally reinvented retinol with their medical grade formulas, which target specific skin concerns, using a unique OmniSome delivery system – which allows the active ingredients to penetrate deeper into the skin, allowing for increased efficacy and less irritation.
PCA skin’s retinols are something you can add to your night-time regime without the worry of irritating your skin. Let the retinol go to work while you sleep!

WASH YOUR MAKEUP BRUSHES
You’d be surprised at the amount of bacteria that your make-up brushes can harbour, and dirty brushes could be the cause of those pesky break-outs. Make it your 2020 resolution to wash your brushes at least once a week – you can simply use a soap, or mild shampoo.
Follow these steps for cleaner, good-as-new brushes and blenders:
- Wet the bristles with lukewarm water.
- Place a drop of makeup brush cleanser or soap into the palm of your hand.
- Gently massage the tips of the bristles in your palm.
- Rinse the bristles.
- Squeeze out the excess moisture with a clean towel.
- Reshape the brush head.
- Let the brush dry with its bristles hanging off the edge of a counter, thereby allowing it to dry in the correct shape. Never let your brushes dry on a towel — the bristles can become mildewed.

NOTHING BEATS PROFESSIONAL HANDS
While we’re big advocates of investing in your skincare so that your skin is taken care of seven days a week, sometimes your skin needs the hands of a professional to give it a new lease of life. The solution? Book yourself in for a medical facial, whether it’s LED Light Therapy, Skin Peels, Medi Facials or a Hydrafacial, treating yourself to a clinic-led facial will kickstart your complexion in no time!
